Slavery is a direct by-product or a manifestation of colonial mentality. Over here, the rich think its their birthright to have a fleet of househelp attend to their every need. It’s sickening.

Slaves are hostaged by the socioeconomic structure that clamps them down. Sometimes, its not all economics and poverty. There are instances when slaves are so because they do not even know otherwise.

Over here, slavery is a problem. In Sao Paulo’s downtown, thousands of Bolivians are slaves of another immigrants in here, specially from Asia.

In other parts here, there are slaves on countryside, on those huge farms that even the devil is afraid to go.

It will take a long time to vanish this in here, sad, but true.

While the realities of poverty can chain the slaves to their plight, a big factor why slavery cannot be eradicated is the slave mentality of people.

It’s true that poverty does not leave the poor any opportunity for upward socioeconomic mobility. But a big part of their situation is that they choose to be subservient, anyway. This servitude mindset prevails in places where the colonial structure has not really left society.
