airfield High School foreign exchange student Glaucia Lie Terasaka thought she just might be crazy to hop on a plane and leave behind her family, her friends and the comforts of her home for an entire year.

These exchange programs are wonderful way for families to learn culture and humanity..My wife is American, I’d honest to God have to say, she is a different person for the fact her parents although, not being able to afford international travel, realised the importance of meeting new people, cultures, tolerance, by having over 10 international exchange students in their home while my wife was growing up..To be honest had it not been for that exchange adventure her parents took, I would of never met my Gringita.

Are these types of programs new to Brazil? My wife’s family had a student from Brasilia, Michael Pessoa

No, they are not. It’s very common in cities like Sao Paulo, Rio and Brasilia.

Her older sister actually moved to Brazil for more than a year and was going to marry him!
