I will start this text making a silly question, did you noticed the amount of films about heroes that were launched in the last two months? Of course you did noticed, unless you were in Mars in the last three months. Hulk, Iron Man, Hellboy, Batman, Hancock, Kung Fu Panda, Get Smart, Speed Racer, Indiana Jones, Wanted. But why is many movies about heroes being launched one after another, without at least give a rest to us, the audience?

Money? Profit? Yes, of course, because Warner, Fox, Universal, Disney, are not institutions famous for their work of charity. But let’s look at a little more depth, just a little more, trying to leave the obvious aside because the obviousness is nothing more that superficiality. And superficial analyses hide the “real” motives. Let’s go then.

In capitalism, to succeed, a company must:
- or sell a product that meets a demand on a product (for example, people need clothes and food);
- or create a new product that creates a new need (iPod, for example, is that equipment vital for consumers? Does anyone die of “failure of mp3″ if does not have one of these electronic devices?). Marketing was created to do that.

Are the films about super heroes a necessity? Perhaps they are. No cultural production is out of context, therefore reflects the desires of a society. In the case of the United States, which is involved in two wars and has problems with the economy, it is not difficult to imagine what many Americans want. And this is the desire for change. So many superpowerfull in films reflect a feeling that many Americans have that are neglected, abandoned, in short, lack them someone who can save them from the confusion that is reality.

In such situations the increased religiosity is something very common, as well as the increase of drug use and alcohol. It would be interesting to know if this is happening or not. However, each one chooses whether to dispose of reality. It may be through anything, even through movies.

Of course, what I wrote is just a personal theory. It may not be considered a theory in fact, only one observation or reflection or whatever name you want to give. But if so, what else then explains Obama’s favouritism?

America has so many superhero movie for the same reason the Chinese have all those kung-fu movie and the Indian have the mushy action hero who gets the girl and kicks the living daylights out of the bad guys...

We dont want to watch movies that will force us to think, we just want to go to the movies, watch a guy with super powers right all the wrongs so that we can come out and feel like alls well with the world!!

A quote from Bertolt Brecht Play, Life of Galileo

Andrea: ”Unhappy is the land that breeds no hero.”
Galileo: ”No, Andrea: Unhappy is the land that needs a hero.”
